Elixir Wedding Photographer

Elixir Wedding Photographer

I found it difficult to contain my excitement when Rosie and Aly asked my to be their Elixir Wedding Photographer in Ibiza.   I have known this pair for many years now and spent the last few years bumping into them between Andorra and Ibiza.  Photographing a destination Wedding in Ibiza is up there with one of the best jobs.  I had never photographed at Elixir, I was massively excited for this opportunity. Getting to photograph at this elite venue on Cala Codolar Beach in San Jose.

Rosie and Aly a well travelled couple, met in 2011 in Paddy’s Bar in Andorra. 2016 saw their engagement in the exquisite setting of the Ernie Els wine estate in Cape Town, South Africa. In between they worked the winters in Andorra and Switzerland, summers in Ibiza.  Taking any opportunity to travel along the way.

At The Villa

On the morning of the wedding Bridesmaid Katie collected me. She took me to the villa where all the wedding preparations were in full swing. The Hairdresser and makeup artist were busy with the girls there was a real buzz in the air.  Working alongside the videographer, Gary, we captured the moments of the girls busying themselves getting ready. Wearing matching dressing gowns whilst enjoying a glass or two of fizz.  Gary was using all the top equipment and even launched his drone.

In my mind I had a partcular picture that I wanted to get.  The dress hanging outside.  I was determined to get this but faced difficulties with the weather.  The rain.  Not what we ordered but we were not going to let it get in our way.  Between the rain and avoiding Dad, John’s, view as he sat in a quiet corner rehearsing his speech, I managed to capture what I wanted.

Arrival of the Boys

It wasn’t long before the boys rocked up to the Villa.  Aly with the lads in tow.  They kept themselves tucked away down at a separate part of the villa.  Enjoying a beer and lots of laughs they casually got ready.  For me this was a trip down memory lane, as years before I had lived a season in this very same villa.

Rosie had expressed her wish to achieve some particular shots, one being Aly in a blindfold giving her a kiss on the morning before he headed off to the venue.  I had never seen this before and love it when my couples come with their own ideas.  Check out for yourself what a fab shot it was.

Before the girls left, Rosie gave out gifts for her bridesmaids. I have edited these images in a vintage style, apt for the settings in the old Ibicenco Villa.

The Ceremony

At Elixir all the guests and groomsmen gathered on the terrace waiting for the Bride to arrive.   Es Vedra provided the jaw dropping backdrop, this truly is a place in a million to get married.  What an opportunity to be an Elixir Wedding Photographer.

A simple but beautiful ceremony with the traditional exchanging of sand.  A sweet part of the ceremony where Bride and Groom have their own vases of sand and combine together to become one.

My job is always easier when the whole wedding party are full of smiles and laughter, this was certainly the case on Rosie and Aly’s big day.  My favourite picture from the ceremony is the one I captured of Rosie proudly showing off her wedding ring, taken on a long lens through the wedding arbor’s foliage.

We were blessed that although we had had rain showers on and off most of the morning it held off throughout the ceremony until after the first kiss.

Blown away with the attention to detail at the venue.  From the mojito bar to the canapés, main meal to the hard working staff to name just a few things that contributed to a perfect wedding day.

The Evening

Working with the unpredictable weather we postponed the Bride and Groom photo walk until early evening. I would normally do immediately after the ceremony. It worked beautifully at this time, using off camera flash along with the natural ambient light I was able to create some stunning images on the beach.

Keeping in theme with the high spirited fun day the evening started with a game of Mr and Mrs.  Mainly focused on questions that saw the bridesmaids sinking the shots.  A perfect platform for the rest of the evening.  The resident DJ set up and started the show, it didn’t take very long until Sam Catling took over the decks and smashed the party until midnight.

The coach returned everyone to San Antonio, where some retired but most partied into the next morning.
